Myth IV- Deaf people hear everything with the help of a hearing aid.

With the help of a hearing aid, some deaf people hear a lot of sounds and others understand the oral language, but they do not hear like people that do in fact hear. In some cases even the hearing aid is of no use because there isn’t any hearing left or the deafness is too advanced.

Depending on the degree of hearing loss, a person can take advantage of what remains of his/her hearing and perceive some sounds. This doesn’t mean that a prosthetic hearing aid will work on any person. Earpieces and implants should be tuned to serve the needs of the person using them. And yes, in the case of someone that has lost a lot of hearing capacity, these products lose their effectiveness.
