Myth V- All deaf people know how to read lips.
âThe development of lip-reading requires that apprentices follow all the cues related to the message, including the surroundings and the movements the speaker makes as he/she speaks.â (Shea and Bauer, 2000)
Not all deaf people acquire their deafness at the same age or in the same manner. Lip-reading is a long and costly process. Letâs remember that it isnât totally effective, because words like âmamaâ and âpapaâ look exactly the same when spoken.
