Myth VIII – Deaf people canât drive.
Deaf people can drive. As a matter of fact, when we drive we mainly use our sight.
Thereâs a general belief that people with disabilities are driving- impaired. This is a half-truth; people with severe eyesight problems, mental problems that affect coordination, or people with poor reflexes can be driving-impaired.
However, the main sense used in driving is sight. Thatâs why deaf people can in fact drive. We could put this to test in a day when we drive with the windows shut and loud music on. Our hearing sense would be unutilized thus not being of use to us while driving.
Letâs remember that in the case of other disabilities like reduced mobility, the car can be adapted so the driver doesnât have to use pedals and instead uses his arms
